Design study
Hyperloop

Product design, communication design

The vision of a hyperloop promises a new way of travelling: vehicles, known as pods, move at high speed through partially evacuated tubes – almost emission-free and noiseless. However, the way such a system works brings new requirements and challenges. Among other things, the vehicle cross-section has an even greater impact than with other vehicles on the feasibility and economic viability of this mode of transport, since it influences the dimensions of the tube and thus the construction effort of the entire infrastructure. In addition, the full potential of a hyperloop network is only realised through minimal dwell times of the pods.

That is why the entire journey was considered by MOJA Design – from arrival at the station to leaving the pod. In collaboration with mu-zero HYPERLOOP, a design study was created for a visionary way of travelling over medium distances. The pod offers space for up to 32 passengers, with the interior making optimal use of a minimal tube cross-section.

Travel comfort is enhanced by, among other things, ComfortAreas with reclining seats and autonomous ServiceStewards. Each passenger receives individual infotainment on interactive displays seamlessly integrated into the surface. An autonomous fast-boarding concept also optimises boarding and alighting times and makes them comfortable and pleasant for passengers, so that the total journey time is reduced to a minimum.

Process sketches of the platform, the pod interior, and various seating variants document how vehicle and station were conceived as one interconnected system. They show the development from first ideas to concrete design variants. The concept was also visualised in an animation.

Concept and design studies like this one are intended to consider the interplay of economics, ecology, and technology as well as the public acceptance of the hyperloop. The concepts thus not only contribute to the further development of the hyperloop but also generate ideas that can be applied to other areas of mobility.
