Fuchs
Machine Interface

ux/ui design

For the new user interface of the Fuchs material handling machines, an HMI was developed by MOJA Design that is consistently oriented around the drivers' requirements. Users were involved in the development process at an early stage: in workshops with drivers, sales staff, and technical development, requirements, usage scenarios, and typical workflows were analysed in detail. Extensive user testing directly on the machine ensured that the new HMI was implemented in a practical, user-friendly way.

The result is an interface in which all important and frequently used functions are accessible within a maximum of two clicks, so operation remains intuitive even in a hectic daily work environment. A clearly hierarchised menu structure ensures that workflows stay comprehensible and information is quickly found. Recurring work steps were grouped into logical sequences and partially automated, reducing unnecessary inputs, speeding up work processes, and minimising sources of error. At the same time, the interface remains deliberately lean: superfluous elements and cluttered displays were consistently avoided.

A live view of the work area, integrated directly into the interface, shows at all times what the machine is currently doing, creating additional transparency during operation. The optional "Virtual Wall" function also enables an intuitive way to limit height and reach, for greater safety and precision at work. In addition, QR-code-based instructions provide fast mobile access to relevant information at any time, without interrupting the workflow.

Also visually the interface combines familiar, trusted symbols with a clear, contemporary design language. The result is a well-considered, efficient, and comfortable user interface that closely adapts to drivers' actual needs. In line with the new operator display, the machines' upper carriage design and the corresponding marketing campaign were also developed by MOJA Design.
