Autonomous Ropeway
Auro Alpin

The future of autonomous mobility is already a reality with "AURO – Autonomous Ropeway Operation." The installations feature intelligent, networked technology and can therefore be operated entirely without on-site staff. Various sensors generate a maximum level of safety and availability.

Alongside the integration of a range of safety technologies such as motion detectors, laser sensors, and communication points, it is essential for autonomously operating systems to guide passenger flow intuitively. For this task, both the design of the elements in the boarding area and a signage and colour concept were developed by MOJA Design, following the universal design principle to also take people with physical disabilities into account. This enables barrier-free boarding alongside fully automated operation, with no accompanying staff required on site.

The AURO technology was first used in Zermatt, where it serves an installation with three stations. The concept is also used on the Valisera Bahn in Silvretta Montafon and on many other installations, demonstrating how the technology can be adapted to different topographical conditions – from short inner-town connections to longer routes in alpine terrain.

Close collaboration with Doppelmayr's technical development team ensured that intuitive design, user guidance, and safety technology were conceived as one interconnected system from the very beginning – the foundation that allows autonomous ropeways to function reliably and safely today without staff on site.
