A holistic design strategy encompassing the entire exterior and interior was developed by MOJA Design for the ATRIA cable car cabin. The new cabin generation serves both urban station connections and demanding alpine routes, and had to meet the highest standards of passenger comfort and durability. The basic form conveys a tidy, elegant overall appearance through clear, harmonious lines and characteristically rounded shapes.

A key aspect of the exterior design is the flush-finished underbody and the seamless integration of the suspension into the roof structure, underlining the aerodynamic, purist look. This consistent line language continues inside, where large-scale panoramic glazing provides maximum transparency and unobstructed views.

The interior feels spacious and airy: ergonomically shaped seats, the use of wood and textiles, and carefully tuned acoustics and lighting enhance passenger comfort. A thoughtfully designed colour and material palette also allows brand-specific adaptation for different railway operators. Modular fitting options further allow the interior to be flexibly adapted to specific customer requirements. Technical details such as the electromechanical door drive system, which uses audiovisual signals for added safety, were also developed as part of the project.

For this overall concept, ATRIA received the Red Dot Design Award in 2020. The cabin is now in use worldwide – including on the Eiger Express in Grindelwald, the 3K K-onnection at Kitzsteinhorn, Les Grands Montets, and the Campitello–Col Rodella connection in Italy.
