Mobility station
Munich

As part of the shift toward sustainable urban mobility, more and more cities are looking for solutions that make diverse sharing services visible and user-friendly within public space. For a tender issued by the City of Munich, a design concept for mobility stations was developed by MOJA Design that brings together a wide range of sharing services, charging points, neighbourhood boxes, and information totems into one coherent system. The goal was to create mobility points that invite interaction and sustainable use in urban space, while blending unobtrusively into a variety of city neighbourhoods.

The modular concept consists of digital and analogue totems equipped with additional features such as photovoltaics, smartphone charging points, an SOS function, and air-filtering moss cultures. The individual modules can be flexibly combined depending on location and need – from compact information totems to fully equipped sharing hubs with charging infrastructure for e-bikes and e-scooters. Particular attention was paid to material robustness and weather resistance, since the stations are permanently installed in public space and must withstand intensive use as well as vandalism.

The targeted planting on the mobility stations not only makes a small contribution to improving air quality in the city, but quite literally brings the stations into bloom, drawing attention in a natural way within the cityscape. In this way, purely functional infrastructure becomes a piece of green, inviting street furniture that combines mobility, sustainability, and quality of stay, and that can be integrated as a recognisable element into a wide range of urban contexts.
