Les Grands Montets
The 24-passenger tricable gondola lift with Atria cabins connects Lognan with the Aiguille des Grands Montets. It replaces the 60-passenger Grands Montets gondola lift, which was destroyed in a fire in 2018. The cable car is part of the overall renovation of the connection from the valley town of Argentière to the Aiguille des Grands Montets. The lower section from Argentière to Lognan is served by the Omega V 10-passenger gondola lift Lognan, which will be realized as part of the same project. The cabin specifications were developed in close collaboration with the architect of the stations, RPBW Renzo Piano Building Workshop. The bottom station (Argentière) is located at 1,230 meters, the middle station (Lognan) at 1,971 meters and the top station (L'Aiguille des Grands Montets) at 3,235 meters. The summit is at 3,300 meters. The cable car technology is partially covered by the D-Line's R2 design station roofs, which are integrated into the overall architectural concept.
Both cable cars cover a distance of 4,690 meters and an altitude difference of around 2,000 meters. Due to the adverse environmental conditions at high altitude, the construction time is limited to a few months in summer, with wind speeds of up to 260 km/h at the mountain station.
