BUGA Wuppertal

The BUGA 31 cable car in Wuppertal connects the core areas of Grüner Zoo and Wupperpforte via Königshöhe Forest Park. It provides barrier-free access to the topographically challenging terrain and creates a direct link between the most important exhibition areas.

The project encompasses the design of the valley, intermediate, and mountain stations, including their integration into the urban and landscape context. In addition to accessibility, visitor flow, and barrier-free access, particular emphasis was placed on the harmonious integration of the architecture into its surroundings. The results of the study were also visualized in an interactive virtual reality application that allows users to experience the planned project spatially even today.

The valley station is integrated into a green parking garage. During the BUGA, access will be via ramps, elevators, and stairs; afterward, access will be via the central access hub. The forecourt was designed as a gathering and distribution area; existing trees were preserved, and the path layout ensures intuitive orientation.

The compact mid-station provides direct access to the Green Zoo and the Sambatrasse. The mountain station serves as the central entrance to the BUGA Wupperpforte site on the Königshöhe and integrates the cable car into the existing network of paths.

Open structures, natural materials, and integrated greenery characterize all three stations and help them blend into the landscape. The result is an infrastructure that combines technical functionality with high design quality.

During the ride, passengers are treated to views of the Green Zoo, the wooded areas of Königshöhe, and the Wuppertal city skyline. The cable car thus becomes a central part of the BUGA31 experience.
