Skippy+

Skippy+ is a retrofit component for chairlift chairs: a slip-through protection used on older chair models so that passengers of any size and age can enjoy the ride even more safely. For this purpose, MOJA Design developed an economical retrofit solution that allows existing installations to be brought up to a higher safety standard without having to replace the chairs.

The requirements for the component were high: low weight, minimal use of material and energy, maximum strength, and high durability under strongly fluctuating temperatures, as are typical in the mountains. Especially on installations with many chairs, every gram saved adds up: low weight reduces the additional load caused by the retrofit. The design was developed quite literally according to the principle of "Form Follows Function": every contour results from the function of the component.

The form is defined by a circumferential band that tapers in line with the flow of forces and flows dynamically around the component. In this way, material is only present where forces actually act. The economical use of material also has a positive effect on resource and energy use in production. Combined with the extremely thin, recessed inner surface, the result is an ultra-lightweight component that achieves the required strength despite its low weight.
